You’re probably wondering what this place is all about. There are both short and long answers to that question.
The Short Answer
Recipes. Friends. Family. Stories. Cooking.
Granny’s Secret Recipes is a place where people can discover recipes, share recipes, learn to cook, and connect with friends and family through food. Whether you’re an experienced cook or someone who’s never boiled a pot of water, you’re welcome here.
Food has always brought people together, and that’s exactly what this website is designed to do.

The Long Answer
Well… The story of Granny’s Secret Recipes began many years ago during a conversation with friends.
My family has always been heavily involved in Dutch oven cooking. Over the years, we moved far beyond the basic recipes that most people associate with Dutch ovens. While cobblers and simple campfire meals are great for learning the basics, our family eventually started creating much more advanced recipes.
My mother, for example, bakes bread in a Dutch oven over an open fire. If you’ve ever made bread, you know that’s not an easy task. It takes skill, patience, and a deep understanding of how to control heat and cooking conditions.
One day, while talking with friends about cooking and family recipes, someone suggested an idea: Why not create an online cookbook where our families could store and share their recipes?
The more we talked about it, the more we realized it could be something bigger.
Instead of building it just for our own families, why not create a place where everyone could share recipes and preserve family traditions and the stories behind them?
At the time, one of my biggest frustrations was with recipe websites. I would visit a site looking for a recipe and have to scroll through pages of junk and unrelated content I was looking for before finding what I actually needed. We wanted something different.
We wanted a website that was simple.
A website where grandmothers, parents, children, and anyone else could easily find recipes, share recipes, and enjoy cooking without unnecessary complications.
As we continued planning, another challenge became clear.
Not every recipe is meant for the entire world.
Many families have recipes that have been passed down through generations. Some are closely guarded family secrets. Some recipes represent years of experimentation and hard work. We wanted a system that would allow people to choose who could see their recipes.
Maybe you want to share a recipe with everyone. Great.
Maybe you only want to share it with friends and family. That’s fine too.
So we cam up with a system for 3 different categories
public, private and secret.
For example, people who barbecue, smoke meats, or compete in cooking events often spend years perfecting their recipes. I personally spent eight months developing a Dutch oven cheesecake recipe. It’s one of those recipes that people still talk about after they’ve tried it.
Those kinds of recipes deserve protection and control.
Another idea that came up was that many recipes are about much more than just the food itself. Behind many family recipes is a rich history filled with memories, traditions, and the people who passed them down.
Part of preserving a recipe is preserving its story. Where did the recipe come from? Who taught it to you? Why is it important to your family?

For example, maybe it’s a Christmas cookie recipe you learned while standing beside your grandmother in her kitchen holiday season. Perhaps you spent the afternoon mixing dough, cutting out cookies, and listening to family stories while the smell of fresh baking filled the house. The recipe itself is valuable, but the memories attached to it are priceless.
That’s why Granny’s Secret Recipes isn’t just about collecting ingredients and directions. It’s also about preserving the stories behind those recipes—the moments, traditions, and family connections that make them special. Long after the recipe is passed down, those stories can continue to be shared and remembered by future generations.
So we designed this website with that idea in mind.
Eventually, we started working on the project itself. We planned it, outlined it, and even began discussing how the software would work. But life happened, and the project never got off the ground.
Fortunately, I kept all the notes, plans, and ideas.
A few years ago, I looked back at everything and realized that if I didn’t start building it myself, it would probably never happen.
The challenge was that I’m not a programmer. I’m an artist.
I can read code and understand what’s happening, but writing it myself has never been my strength. However, modern technology gave me the tools I needed to turn this idea into reality.
Over the past several years, I’ve spent countless hours learning about databases, software design, coding concepts, and website development. I started with almost no knowledge of databases and had to teach myself everything from the ground up.
What you see today is the result of that journey.
