This is a recipe my mother made around Thanksgiving and served at Christmastime. You kids probably wouldn’t remember it because I didn’t make it very often, but I didn’t want to lose the recipe.
Ingredients
3 c sugar
1 c light cream
1 heaping tablespoon butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 lb of dates
1 lb of figs
1 lb raisins
1 lb coconut
1 or 2 cups nuts
Directions
Cook the sugar, cream, and butter to the soft-ball stage. Beat the mixture until creamy, then stir in the fruit and nuts until thoroughly combined.
Shape the mixture into a loaf, like a meatloaf. Wrap it first in a damp cloth, then in wax paper, and tie securely. Allow it to age for two weeks to a month—the longer it ages, the sweeter it becomes.
When ready to serve, cut into thin slices. This is a very rich and delicious treat.
