Ingredients

2 c. flour
1 T. sugar
2 ½ tsp. baking powder
½ c. butter
½ tsp. baking soda
¾ c. buttermilk or sour milk
¼ tsp salt

Directions

Mix flour, baking powder, salt and sugar in a bowl and mix. Next cut butter into flour mix until coarse crumbles . With a fork , stir in buttermilk to make soft dough. Turn onto a lightly-floured board and softly knead into a ball. Do not over-knead, or biscuits will not be tender. Roll out to a 6x6 inch square. Place on a buttered tray. With a knife, cut dough into 12 portions. Do not separate; leave biscuits in the square. Bake at 400 degrees until golden brown, about 15 minutes. You can serve Poor Man’s Gravy over the biscuits with corn relish for your meal.
